I read his diaries kept and published by Pat Hackett after his death. It was a fascinating daily record of his life. If ever a life could be called an archelogical record, it was his. One of the most fascinating things was he kept everything; scraps of paper, receipts for cab rides, scribbled notes and put them in a box that when full was put in a warehouse with hundreds of other boxes of earlier days.
