Why?

I could be nice and say that I’m a wee bit upset, or that I am going to speak with vinegar instead of sugar (something my Gram always said) but I’m just going to be blunt. I am pissed off. Truly bewildered by someone’s actions. Why? Because there seems to be certain people out on the World Wide Web who take delight in being assholes, pure and simple. Sorry if some of my language offends anyone, but it needs to be said. I received a comment today that said and I quote:

“It's bad enough that 90% of the recipes here are ripped off from other blog authors or copied from well-known publications, but now you're entering them into contests? How lame.”

Well now. First of all please let me clarify one fact. I did not enter my recipe in a 'contest'. The potato ho down is a monthly event where we share our love of all things made with spuds. There are no prizes there is no cash reward, we do it for fun.

Second of all I wanted to point out that I could have just deleted that comment. Ignored that person, which I have done before in the past. Some people just aren’t worth the time or effort. The last time this person made a snide remark, I ignored it. I took the higher road and let it go. This time I didn’t. If you want to read my response, you can go to the comments under the Baked Mashed Potatoes recipe. It had to be said and I think that most of you with blogs out there would have probably done the same thing.

Lastly…I’d love to know the answer to this question Mr. Anonymous ….why do you keep coming back to my blog? Really why? I’d love to know. You don’t like the fact that I “copy” other people’s recipes. Apparently, 90% of the ones that I post are ripped off, which by the way is total bullshit, and you think I’m lame?? I’d love you to point me in the direction of the blog that is filled with only original recipes. As Evil Chef Mom said in her response to you: “All recipes are shared. That's why cookbooks were invented and magazines are published, to share food and ideas. It's not ripped off when you credit the article, publisher, and or author, which she clearly did."

Why do you come here? Why don’t you just move along or is your life so pathetic that you feel the need to leave hurtful comments, anonymously (coward), just to piss someone off? Can’t even be a real man and show your identity? How pathetic. Takes a special kind of person to do that. What a deplorable and pitiful person you must be to take delight in trying to upset others. Just so you know, I will be deleting all further hateful remarks, cause frankly; you are not worth a second of my time or anyone else’s.

I’m pretty sure I won’t get a response to my questions.

I do have questions for the other bloggers out there… How do you deal with people like this? Do you just delete the comments? Fire back? Ignore them?

Oh yeah and stayed tuned tomorrow….I’ll be posting some more ripped off recipes and if you’re lucky, they might even be stolen from a well know publication! What fun!

This is my first visit here...I found you googling cupcakes. I will be trying your chocolate chip cupcake recipe and I dont give a crap where you "stole" it! You keep your chin up and IGNORE those that leave such comments. I get them too...mostly about things I post that I like. Like my opinion isnt worth as much as the comment dropper. But I have my blog on moderation (I have learned the hard way on that)...and I do NOT post them. I try to keep things fairly happy on my blog and I make no room the ugly people. It is your space on the www. You don't have to allow those that dont know how to play nice. I am going back to read more. Hope you will pop over to my blog if you ever have time.

Not to worry, people like that (especially rude anonymous people) aren't worth your time. Nor do they have the right to flame you on your blog! Some people are pretty pathetic.

I suppose "anonymous asshole" wouldn't cook or share one of his/her's family recipes because, well, it's ripped off ;)

You just keep doing a wonderful job on your blog and all your good, positive readers will continue to enjoy every last recipe and photo!

I know I'll stay tuned :)

I agree totally with deleting his comments, Do you have a sitemeter? If you do you can find out where this idiot is coming from to get to your blog, It may even give you his url. Whether he or she realizes it or not he CAN be found! Every computer has code #, and that code can be found and blocked from your site. If you need any help just let me know, hubby and I have a friend that's a whiz with computers. Mr Anon won't be for long!

What the ????? I come to peek in your virtual window every day and marvel at the recipes you use and tweak. Never have I had the feeling that you were trying to pass anything off as original (unless it was Grandma's or something)in fact you usually tell us exactly where you found the recipe! I am absolutely amazed that this cretin would say something like this and likewise I absolutely LOVED your response...I always knew we could be neighbors! This is a "neighborhood" of people sharing recipes, tips, and tricks to make our lives easier and just like any desireable neighborhood, vermin will try to creep in to spoil it. I hope this a-hole crawls back under the rock from whence he came. You go girl!

We've found there are always idiots out there who thrive off the attention of riling people up. They'll say whatever untruths they can to get under someone's skin. So we just ignore them. Comment goes straight to spam, never to be seen again. Life's too precious to waste time on assholes. Todd.

Oh you got a troll. Congratulations. O_O

I don't blame you for being upset. That really irks me too, knowing it was in regards to the PH event, which has been taking place for a long time, and is simply fun for all involved. Nobody is pretending to have an original recipe if they don't have one. Sheesh. Didn't he read the rules?

Anyway.

Keep your chin up Lisa 'cause you have admirers and anonytard doesn't. And your response to him was spot on. "Right?" Priceless.

Oh just totally ignore them. I would say it's probably a person you know who is jealous of your fabulous blog and probably a woman trying to disguise herself as a man...just a thought.

Recipes are to be shared, enjoyed and made over and over. There is nothing better than sharing food ideas, making them again and posting the FLIPPIN' Recipe. Ignore the jealous person, they are not worth it. As bloggers we have a thick skin and have to put off with the crap of many...keep cooking!

Please don't let jerks like that commenter get you down, Lisa. Some people are only happy when they tear someone else down. I've gotten nasty comments before and I know how hurtful it is. It is interesting, though, that these people always remain "Anonymous". It just shows what pathetic cowards they really are.

Remember, you are the Queen of you Blog Kingdom. Delete the asshole!

Wow, I'm a little late to the party, but good for you in hitting back! Me? I just ignore them, I figure that probably pisses them off more than anything else. I personally don't delete them because I kind of like it since everyone else jumps in to tell you what an a-hole that person was. For realz.

Anonymous said...

You did good, but from this point on I wouldn't allow them space on your blog....just delete them.

I think there are people out there that just enjoy trying to poop on other people's day. Everything is either copied or a variation. It's not worth you worrying about. Keep up the good work. I love your "copied" recipes!!! :)

I just found your blog and I have to agree with the other bloggers, it is your space own it! Your cupcakes are beautifull and your page is lovely. Of course we all use recipes from lots of sources and very few are truly "passed down" even then often grandma got it from Betty Crocker. Don't be dismayed and keep posting your wonderful additions to the recipe universe.
p.s. Do you twitter?
